Another great stay at the Boathouse. Very peaceful after a hectic half. Have even been able to sit outside a couple of times. Thanks Chris, see you next year.

John & Margaret Cousins                   Eton Windsor              11.2.11-19.2.11

Had lovely time staying in fabulous flat, very clean and comfortable. Dover Castle incredible. Tenterden beautiful town, loved the antique shops, this town has everything you need, everyone very helpful and friendly. Ostriches were a surprise, will definitely be back.

Thank you for bubbly, only rained on Wednesday, sat out with drinks on balcony on Thursday.

You can get used to quietness, warmth and comfort, then going downstairs to bed. Everything as one would wish. On a bird-watching expedition a very large bird was spotting a little way downstream. Experts pointed out that it was a seal. Rye rules OK.

Rosemary & Michael Brown              Norfolk                       3rd – 10th March 2011

Our seventh stay since we came in 2000 on honeymoon (aahh!). Weather changed from ice blast at first to warm summer on later days.

Bittern booming but unseen at Castle Water & at reserve in Dungeness. There are recycling facilities at Jempson’s/Budgens for glass, plastic bottles etc. We’ll be back! Happy Days!

John & Olive Mercer,              Sidcup                         2-9 April 2011

Our fifth stay and still absolutely lovely. We have had some fantastic weather to see Rye at its best. We have been able to sit in the sunshine and read the papers – so relaxing and just what we needed. We have had fantastic service and coffee at the American Diner – Farrells. Just go and check out those cars!

We will be back very soon. Lovely to see you again Chris.

Judith & Clive Morgan                       Buckfast, Devon         9th – 16th April 2011

Fantastic, well equipped apartment set in peaceful & idyllic surroundings.

Enjoyed walking to Camber Sands (quiet end!). Winchelsea coast was a great walk with fab views, great run through the Nature Reserve via the castle & nice just wandering the streets of Rye. Disappointed by Hastings!

We had a great time and would love to come back.

(we’ll read the instruction book properly next time!)

Paula & Nuvit                                     London                       23rd – 30th April 2011

Very comfortable again. We would recommend Scotney Castle (NT) up the A21 past Flimwell & Bewl Water. Clearly signed at roundabout.

Merriment Gardens (behind garden centre) very worthwhile – 4 acres of lovingly tended, varied borders and features. Just off A21 a mile or 2 south of Flimwell. See if you too can find the starfish amongst the boulders at Rye Harbour. If you try walking the High Weald Landscape Trail go north from Wittersham to Tenterden. Southern part less interesting.

Dennis & Margaret                             Cheshire                      30th April – 7th May 2011

Area of amazing contrasts – viz. Dungeness & Tenterden! Flushing Inn recommended for special meat – excellent food good service & Generous helpings.

Nice welcome, enough good weather to enjoy the walking; Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, Winchelsea & Iden. Interesting birds, long tailed tits, tawny owl. Woodpecker, egret (River Rother), and the ever present gulls.

Paula Amy Bright                                                Milton Keynes                      11/1/08 to 18/1/08

Beautiful weather for walks. Rye is an enchanting town. The harbour walk is bracing – we enjoyed a wonderful break from our busy lives – time to breathe!

Jack & Jill Walker                                                Leigh Park  Havant                             16-20.2.08

Well-kept accommodation as usual.

Bird-watching at Dungeness, Rye Harbour &  Pett Level – eating out at Ship (on Strand) Landgate Bistro (cheaper menu Tues – Thurs) Simply Italian (wine voucher enclosed here) all excellent. Weather unseasonably mild.

Andy & Lindy H.                                 Enfield                                                   20/2 – 23/2/08

Our fourth visit and we enjoyed it just as much. The weather went from snow to sunshine in a week and there were plenty of blue sky days. We love it here – the flat is super, so cosy and comfortable. I know we’ll come back. Thank you, Chris and lovely to meet you after all these years.

Judith & Clive Morgan                       Buckfast, Devon                 April 5th – 12th

Best self-catering accommodation I have ever stayed in. I was born in the area, and have had a great week tracing my past. Very restful and warm, no traffic noise!! An extra bonus. (28.03.09 David – here with Elizabeth for the week to see the area she was brought up in. Lovely relaxing week with lots of lovely views and walks).

John Beaven & Joan Barker, Boston Lincs, 6/9/08 to 13/9/08

First visit to this part of England, completely enchanted with Rye. Webbe’s Fish Café/Restaurant recommended (near town gate). Flushing Inn also excellent & friendly but pricey (!). Walk across to Winchelsea via Camber Castle very pleasant.

Enjoyed white wines at 2 vineyards : Chapel Down (dry white, expensive) and Biddenden (fruity, medium, inexpensive). Very pleasant stay.,

Pete & Margaret Crittenden, Nottingham, 5-11 April 2009

Our 2nd visit here, lovely comfortable flat.

Enjoyed watching the ostriches which you can see across the other side of the river. If you drive up the road to Rye Harbour there is a gap in the hedge where you can get close to them.

I love watching them run.

Eileen & Patrick Smith, Watford, Herts, May 2-9 ‘09

Our 4th visit, but first in May, Superb weather, 21-24º and sun every day. Lots of spring flowers & blossom.

We always spend a lot of time at Dungeness, as well as Hastings Old Town – as photographers they are great places. Also Rye Harbour, Military Canal at Winchelsea, and Appledore & Fairfield Church.

Too hot to eat out much – Simply Italian good as always and the Pilot at Dungeness serves good food. Nice lunch at the pub in Rye Harbour – lots of outside seats.

Not much birdlife – winter visitors now gone but river and gravel pits always fascinating.

No doubt we will be back again, meanwhile back to cold wet and windy Scotland – after our terrible winter this week has been a tonic!

Sheila & Alan Borthwick                   Perth Scotland                      May 3-10 2008

First of all thank you for the bottle, very handy for our anniversary. Pleasant and comfortable with glorious weather. Ostrich wandering on the plain and windmills to keen Don Quixote busy. Entertained by quarrelling gulls, fishing terns, cormorants and other just passing by. For trips out, Bodiam – disappointing, Sissinghurst – pretty but crowded. Bateman’s – exceedingly good.

Rye Harbour Reserve – excellent value.

John & Dawn Hackett                                    Coventry                     7th to 21st May 2011

Comfortable, fresh & clean. Ostriches a real surprise. Gulls always worth watching. Strange weather sunny windy fresh. Winchelsea delightful with excellent museum & lively “live” commentary. Bateman’s beautifully kept & friendly guides. Bodiam very interesting but you must see the video.

KESR is a ‘different’ preserved railway with an interesting history. The museum there is 1st rate. Even Mary found that very interesting and well presented.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve surprisingly interesting with a friendly capable manager. The Monastery – good ambience, well cooked interesting food good service. Not pub food but not pretentious. I should have stayed Italian! Old Rye wonderful. Parking difficult but worth the effort.

The locals say Mapp & Lucia are still around!

Derek & Mary Draper                         (Cambridgeshire)                    21-28 May 2011

Lovely apartment – clean, tidy and comfortable. So quiet & peaceful. Looking forward to exploring the surrounding are as it’s all new to me. As I’m here on my own to explore the surrounding gardens I feel safe – which is important. My thanks for the bottle and tea stuff – just what I needed after the M4 & M25 this morning. Recommend Great Dixter, Sissinghurst (get there early!) Worth climbing up Rye Church tower to see amazing views . Canterbury and West Dean gardens on way home.

Claire                                                   Wiltshire                                  6 June 2011

Lovely quiet location, very pleasant apartment, everything you need. Enjoyed watching the cormorant every day, especially tussling with the seagull over his supper he had just caught.

Enjoyed a very good Sunday lunch (roast) at The Unicorn.

Would not recommend fish & chips from Kettle of Fish.

We visited a couple of National Trust properties, Sissinghurst was lovely. Many thanks for the bottle & welcome tray, weather could have been better but didn’t let it spoil our stay.
