An excellent apartment in a fine location; no complaints about anything, though it took us a while to figure out the central heating. A couple of days just mooching around in Rye, in beautiful bright cold sunshine. We kept returning to Haydens for lunch, a jewel of an institution, especially for anyone with a gluten intolerance – The Fish Café is also excellent, a bit more pricey but worth it and very helpful staff. The Standard was a pleasant pub, but our food, after nearly an hour and a half’s wait was disappointing. We also enjoyed the retro shop on Cinque Port Street and the Grammar School Record Shop, especially for folk and jazz. And Biddenden’s still, strong, Kentish cider is fine stuff! The flat was cosy and warm despite it being -4º outside! We enjoyed looking round Rye and getting reacquainted with the Captain Pugwash stories. Also visited Camber Sands, totally deserted, very restful. Biddenden Vineyard – Excellent welcome – lots of free samples and no pressure to buy. Also toured Marsh Churches – a wealth of history here and interesting to see how they continue to meet needs of local community. So much more want to do but time has run out. Can we come again, please – or maybe we could hide in the wardrobe! Chris & Mary Fuller, Enfield, Middx., Jan 2009 6th – 10th
Another week in the Boathouse same high standard as last year. Thanks Chris. Again Carey’s & Baileys for food. Found Jempsons supermarket in Peasmarsh this time. Lunch time food excellent value and evening buffet at £6 all you can eat even better! Electric boat trip at Hythe a must. Super gentle boat very peaceful. Even saw a kingfisher. Dorothy & Frank Traynor Scone Perth Scotland 15/5/11 – 21/5/11
Back again! Dry but windy first half of week – some rain showers Thursday & Friday. Again we had dinner at the Black Lion Appledore – excellent food and a great selection. Lots of birds in river, black headed gulls, oystercatchers, great crested grebe etc. Mike & Sue, W. Sussex 21/5/11 – 28/5/11
Our second visit to the Boathouse. Love the apartment. One of our favourites. This visit Small Hythe Place & return visit to St Thomas a Becket church surrounded by sheep in the marsh. Thank you for the bubbly. Pete & Liz Burgess Hill, W. Sussex 13th – 17th June 2011
We visited Rye on a day trip for our anniversary and wanted to stay longer. The Boathouse gave us a good base for our long weekend – follow up. Highlights were the walk to the Harbour, a large and tasty Sunday lunch at the Black Lion in Appledore and wandering the streets in the early evening exploring Rye. Carey’s fish restaurant is recommended too. Thanks for a good break! Jeff & Suzy Cobham, Surrey 23-25 July 2011
A second visit for us and a lovely relaxing stay. The sparkle is a wonderful warm and welcoming gesture. The Mermaid (though expensive) scores Brownie points with us because of its vegetarian menu with vegan options. Thank you Chris for this haven. The Pollards of Walthamstow 28-31st July 2011
Second time for us as well. Weather has been mixed. Went to London to visit Greenwich Maritime Museum, lasted 2hrs had to come back due to the Riots there!! What an experience. Scotney Castle well worth the visit, very peaceful. Try the local Rye Bay Plaice off the fish-man by the bridge. Managed to bake in oven (foiled) beautiful!! Thanks again Chris and for the fizz!! Jean & Mike 6-8-2011 – 13.8.2011
Our first visit to the Boathouse and Rye – we were not disappointed. The location of the apartment is lovely – very peaceful. Rye is beautiful with lots of nice restaurants and pubs to choose from. We will definitely be visiting again. Many thanks Claire & Mark x PS Thanks for the fizz! Claire & Mark Hood. 26/8/11 – 29/8/11
