Visitor's Book Rye is a very nice place to stay in – and all the surroundings are wonderful. We enjoyed the services of St Mary’s Church on top of the hill. We ate at one of the pubs in town – we drove around Canterbury, Folkestone, Dover and many other places. At this time of the year there are still flowers all over the gardens which is different in comparison to our home area. If you go from one village to the other you’ll see pure nature with sheep and trees and hedges and water groves. You’ll find ancient churches and houses which are built in a very nice style with brick walls and chimneys and more details that give them real character. As if time had stopped. We are delighted by all this and wouldn’t have expected it that wonderful! The time was too short so we’ll have to come back. Bernd & Britta Rothert Ludensheid Germany 25th Oct – 2nd Nov
The weather has been brilliant, so we didn’t get to see everything we wanted to – too much lazing on Camber Sands. Golf at Lydd Golf course very reasonable and you can hire buggies as well. All a great excuse for coming back. Apartment was great – shower boiling!!! Thanks for a most enjoyable stay. John & Sue Darge Scotland, August 3rd -7th 2009
We had a wonderful stay here on our honeymoon, it was the perfect place to be. Only regret is we didn’t book for longer. The Ship Inn was excellent for food – not cheap but what we got what we paid for and it was absolutely delicious – best steak ever! Very grateful for the incredibly thoughtful touches of a box of chocolate, and the bottle of champagne waiting for us when we arrived, thank you so much. We would love to come here again. All in all, a beautiful start to our married life together., Sophie & Seamus, Aug 8-10th 2009
Another lovely stay – our third. Yes – it’s very welcoming to find bubbly in the fridge. I think Great Dixter’s our very favourite garden in England. It’s great to park at Northiam and walk to Great Dixter over the fields. Any local walk book will describe the route. Our favourite restaurant in Rye is Webbe’s Fish Café – very stylish but not pretentious. Best grilled plaice EVER! Andrew & Margaret Polmear 9th – 13th June 2011
Arriving at the Boathouse we were very pleased to see that everything was as mentioned on the internet. After having been staying at many houses for our holidays either in France, Spain or Italy we can say that the Boathouse is very well equipped and located strategically for visiting many sights in East Sussex. To name a few: Bodiam Castle was absolutely perfect and even in the rain. Tenterden is a very lovely place to visit with good shops and 2 great superstores: Tesco & Waitrose. Winchelsea was very interesting, known to be the smallest village in England. Very impressive was of course Great Dixter house. The house is lovely to visit but the gardens are unbelievable, all done by Christopher Lloyd. Everyone should try either a steam train or diesel. We opt for steam from Tenterden to Bodiam it is a must etc. etc. Thanks for the bubbles .. and a very enjoyable stay. We will surely come again. Our second visit to No1. The Boathouse proved as pleasant and tranquil as the first. What a lovely place to stay. Gareth & Judith Woolcott 1-4 July 2011
Had a lovely relaxing time & enjoyed our stay at No1, we particularly liked the view. We found Rye to be nice & central. We particularly liked the train from Dungeness to Hythe & if you don’t mind a little drive Bedgebury Pinetum. Marie & Jason Surrey 9th – 16th July
Really enjoyed our stay. Apartment ideally placed for walking into Rye yet so quiet & peaceful. We’d recommend the Cobbles Tea Room in Rye for coffee, cakes and light lunches and we bought excellent sausages at Winchelsea Farm Kitchen (cards in information file). There’s a Waitrose and Tesco at Tenterden. For anyone interested in plants & gardens Merriments at Hurst Green has a good range of plants, a good restaurant & a very pretty garden. We also bought some camellias from Coghurst Camellias (Near Three Oaks). They also sell alpines but the camellias are a real spectacle at the moment – excellent plants, good prices and hundreds to choose from. There are so many places to visit we just couldn’t fit them all in so look forward to next time. Gwen & Jim, Aspley Guise, March 2010
